Vincent Caldwell is a published tattoo and traditional artist currently living in Los Angeles who has been drawing since he could hold a crayon. "I've become enthralled in all forms of art. I tend to keep my personal art slanted towards the darker, the macabre and the surreal. Every painting, drawing and tattoo is an opportunity for personal and professional growth which I use to learn and explore, not only the world around me, but myself as well." In 2012, Vincent launched his professional tattoo career. Since then, he has traveled, been published in Out of Step Books' Black & White: Vol. 3 and has continually focused on growth and improvement within himself, his art and his tattooing. For our Halloween launch, Vincent has shared Heartbreak and Hekate's Familiar. Both are mixed media (watercolor, graphite and charcoal) and took approximately 80 hours to complete. Vincent explains that these works were a surrealistic approach to represent a complex combination of emotions and thoughts: "I use what some may consider 'dark' or 'evil' as the subject matter because I believe that the darker something is, the more of a catalyst it is for truth. In the worst situations you see true courage, true strength, true selflessness, etc." Heartbreak."Heartbreak is an attempt to visually portray the feeling we have when our hearts are 'ripped out,' and we grow cold." Hekate's Familiar"Hekate's Familiar observes everything. It guards the metaphorical crossroads of life." The two works above among many others, as well as tattoo service and purchasing information, can be found on his website: Art of Vincent Caldwell.
